Review:Up (Spoiler-free)

I loved this film.
I had the chance to watch it in 3D theater and I wasn't disappointed.
It was worth the extra 100php.
The story was touching and very entertaining.
The characters were cute and unique.
It made me think of my own life and made me realize that I was losing perspective.
I admit, some scenes made me cry.
It made me think of what my life would be like when I'm old.
This is definitely my new favorite animated movie.
Bring a friend, your family and loved ones to this movie.
I definitely recommend it.

Review:District 9

The movie started out as a bit boring.
It's not your typical alien movie.
I found it a bit difficult to understand the actors' accents but I got used to it by the middle of the film.
What was interesting about the film is that it showed just how frightening human nature can be.
It tackled the topic of xenophobia and I found it emotionally stirring.
I haven't seen a movie like this before and I found it intriguing.
The ending was very sad and my heart just went out for Wikus van de Merwe.
I would recommend it as a good movie to watch at home but probably not good enough to waste your money watching it on the big screen.

P.S.
This is my 100th post. Hurrah! ^_^

Review:GI Joe:Rise of the Cobras (spoiler free!)

This has got to be the best action movie I've seen so far this year.
I love it!
It's even better than Transformers 2.
I really liked the way they inserted the story background into the action scenes.
Very smooth flowing.
And the action stunts were sooooo cool.
Grabe.
Of course, it's unavoidable that they had to change some of the original storyline
and I found the acting a bit mababaw but that's ok.
Critics don't like it though. But I really enjoyed the film.
For more info, visit the official website or the ever so informative IMDB.
Hands down, human action scenes beats huge alien robots.

Review:Transformers:Revenge of the Fallen (Spoiler free)

I want to make this review as spoiler-free as possible because I want people to enjoy the complete awesomeness of this movie.
As in W-O-W.
There was even a scene where my mouth was literally open as I watched it.
I think Megan Fox was hotter on the first one though.
I liked her subtle sexiness last time.
In this film they're obviously trying to make money out of it.
But all the special effects were so cool.
I'm really glad I insisted watching this movie on it's first day.
I did find some errors but it would be impossible to say them without spoiling people.
I also think that some of the new characters were there as fan service only.
And without giving out much details...
2 major character dies.
Overall,I find this movie waaay cooler than the first one.
Definitely woth the money.

Review:Ellana Lip Scrub (Vanilla Bean)

I discovered Ellana online a few months ago and I just love their make-up.
One of my favorites is their lip scrub.
It's sweet and yummy.
I'm usually tempted to just go ahead and eat it.
And best of all, it leaves my lips feeling smooth and kissable.
Ready for marathon kissing sessions. Hehehe ^_^

Review:Ramen Tei

My beau was craving some Japanese food (again) so I decided to look for one in Festival Mall that we haven't tried yet.
I discovered Ramen Tei through the Festival Mall website and suggested that we check it out.
First off, I have to say that when we saw the restaurant we had second thoughts about whether we should enter or not.
Only one table was occupied and it really didn't offer much ambiance.
But because I was too lazy and hungry to go look for another place, we decided to go for it.
I apologize for the not so decent pictures.
The place had minimal lighting and I didn't want to use flash 'coz it might bother the people in the other table.

The place had minimal decorations and didn't really offer the "Japanese restaurant vibe". I think there were only four people on staff that day (Thursday afternoon). The place had minimal decorations and didn't really offer the "Japanese restaurant vibe". I think there were only four people on staff that day (Thursday afternoon).

The first thing I noticed was how long the menu was. There were 807 choices including the drinks! (3 weren't available)

Beau commented that the menu was like a karaoke song list.

It took us a long time to choose our order and in the end we chose the set meal. Beau ordered the Sashimi Teishyoku (mixed sashimi) and I had the Ebi Tempura Teishyoku (batter fried prawns). Both meals included miso soup, potato salad, rice, mixed vegetables and a slice of ripe mango for dessert.

Ebi Tempura Teishyoku (310php)

Sashimi Teishyoku (310php)

I have to admit, the food tasted a lot better than I expected. The vegetables were freshly cooked and the potato salad was yum! Tempura always tastes the same for me although I do like the consistency of the batter that they used. It was a good deal for 310 pesos each and we were really full after the meal.

Pros:
-friendly staff
-good food
-privacy (we were the only people left after the people from the other table were finished)
-reasonably priced

Cons:
-air conditioning was a bit too warm for my liking
-the miso soup was a bit bland
-poor ambiance
-ants!

Overall, I'd still like to go back to the place although Beau didn't want to return because ants bit him. Oh how ants love my Beau. ^_^

Review:Kanin Club @ Paseo de Santa Rosa

My boyfriend and I decided to eat at Kanin Club for our 6th anniversary.
The food was really good although there were a lot of people so we weren't able to enjoy the ambiance that much..
We arrived during the peak lunch period so we were lucky to get seats.
We ordered the aligue rice, their famous crispy dinuguan (which I adored) and the Tom Yum Goong. I wanted to try more but seeing as there were only two of us, it seemed wasteful.

The Ambiance (score 8/10)
-I loved the whole Filipino feeling the restaurant had. There were stained glass near the doors
and the tables were made of wood and had capiz windows under the glass. Folk songs were also being played in the background. Now if only the employee uniforms matched the theme...

Aligue Rice-119php (score:4/10)
-it seemed a bit too bland for my taste. It was like colored white rice and nothing more.

Crispy Dinuguan-209php (score:9/10)
-I've read much about this dish and I wasn't disappointed. I loved this. I usually don't eat diniguan unless I know what's in it but this was definitely an exception to the rule. My only complaint is that most of the pieces were too big and not really bite size. And of course, the crispness tends to go away after a few minutes.

Tom Yum Goong-292php (score:8/10)
-I liked this one a lot too. It was like a spicy-minty seafood sinigang. There was a candle under the serving bowl so it was kept deliciously warm. I was a bit disappointed though because it only had one big shrimp in it and the rest was mussels and squid. I only eat shrimp. ^_^

Pros:

-Good food
-Reasonably priced
-Fast service (the place was packed!)

Cons:

-Small area
-Airconditioning wasn't that cool
-Tacky paintings (in my opinion)

Overall Rating: 8/10
-It's a good place to go to if you want to have a good meal with your family or friends.
I don't recommend it for first dates though. The ambiance isn't really romantic and there's too much people.

Review:Watchmen (Spoilers!)

I love this movie.
Next to Ironman and 300, this is my favorite comic book-turned-movie film.
Here's my quick review:
At first, I thought that the movie would be quite like X-Men but boy was I wrong!
The movie was almost 3hrs long and to me the storyline and some of the scenes seemed a bit too mature for its R-13 rating.
There were some boring parts but I guess that's quite normal for a movie that long.
My favorite part of the movie was the introductory part where they showed the heroes in their glory days and how they lost what they had.
Hmm... Kinda like The Incredibles, ha.. ^_^
I liked the way Rorschach acted and I wondered if I would've done the same thing he did towards the end of the film.
Ooh and Dr. Manhattan is H-O-T!
And it kinda bothered me that all I think of is Denny Duquette whenever I see The Comedian. ^_^
Hehe..
Definitely a great movie to see with your buddies.

Review:Ellana Mineral Liquid Lip Color

I just ordered Ellana's Mineral Liquid Lip Color in the color stunning.
It was in the twist tube container and cost me only 120php.
Here's a quick review of the item...

Pros:
-It's very affordable (120php)
-It's available in different pretty colors (check out their website)
-It's a Philippine product
-Has a cool minty flavor
-A little goes a long way

Cons:
-I found the twist tube container a bit irritating. I twisted for about a minute before some color came out.
-It's heavily tinted so first time users would have to practice first just to get the right shade/look
-I found it too thick for my liking. It was more difficult to apply than other liquid lip colors.

Would I buy again? Yes. Ellana's Mineral Liquid Lip Color is well worth the money.
I suggest that you get multiple items to save on shipping. They have so many kikay items that you're sure to buy more than one make-up type. ^_^

Review:Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street

Oooh... Sweeney Todd..
Another movie with Johnny Depp and Tim Burton working together.
Love it.
Although they're not not the greatest of singers, I love the cast.
They suit their roles perfectly, specially Johnny Depp as Sweeney Todd and Helena Bonham Carter as Mrs. Lovett.
I loved how the production maintained the beauty of the songs in the original Sweeney Todd play but also transformed them into something that would suit the big screen..
The way they transition from songs to dialogue is flawless.
I also loved Tim Burton's treatment for the film.
The movie was almost in black and white and they had color in all the right scenes.
I think the blood was also made to look a bit different.
Not exactly like blood.
The ending of the movie was a bit different from the play.
I haven't watched the entire play yet.. I'm going to do it later tonight.
Tim Burton rocks!
Overall Sweeney Todd is the best movie that I've seen for a long time..
I love Johnny Depp......................

Review:Cloverfield

Hmm..
When we went up to the counter for tickets (using my raffle prize-movie passes) the cashier asked us to read something first..
It's a warning of sorts..Telling us that Cloverfield was shot using a hand-held camera and may cause dizziness. 'Kinda like blairwitch' was the thought that came to my mind.. And that movie sucked.
I started to change my mind about watching the movie but since I know that I can't drag Beau into watching Saw 4, we just took our tickets and went into the cinema..
Well, the movie was okay..
Giant monster.
People panicking and stealing stuff.
Girl from mean girls exploded.
Manhattan got nuked.
Although it was quite dragging in the beginning.
They should've cut that part in half and added more action scenes..
We're still trying to figure out where the monster came from.
A quick peek at IMDB let us find out that there's going to be a sequel..
I understand.
But honestly, the movie wasn't great but it wasn't crap either.
I recommend it if you're trying to do something with your free time or free movie passes..

Review:Jumper

The first part was ok..
Basic introduction as to how he discovered he could jump.

We also got to see how Annasophia Robb turned into a young beauty overnight.
Unfortunately, there were a lot of dragging lovey dovey moments in the movie that could've been put to better use by adding more action scenes.
And the things that you saw in the trailer basically sums up the effects that's featured in the movie..
Well,ok..Maybe there was a tiny bit more.

The ending was a major let down. I was like 'that's it?!!!? Seriously? Crap.
Ugh..I want to put in more details but I don't want to write spoilers either..
Just watch Jumper if you think Hayden is a cutie.

Review:10,000 B.C. (*spoiler alert!*)

To be honest, I never thought I would like this movie.
I saw the trailer and I wasn't moved.
So they lived in 10,000 B.C. So what?
But since the movie theaters here didn't have anything good to watch, I gave in and decided to watch the movie.
Okay.
Steven Strait and Camilla Belle were hot even though they were supposed to look like grimy people.
The story seems simple to me but the visual effects in the movie made up for it and made the movie into something special.
The ending was a bit too corny for my liking.
Evolet should've stayed dead.
Or maybe I just didn't like the fact that a certain someone was drooling 'cause of her.. Hmph

Review:Horton Hears a Who (spoilers!)

I was feeling a bit moody and bitchy the day we decided to watch this movie.
Horton Hears a Who automatically changed my mood.
The first few seconds of the movie was beautiful. I mean,it looked real to me.
I'm simply amazed at what technology can do these days.
I mean, cartoons used to be just cartoons, you know?
Anyway, I felt like I was a kid again while watching this movie.
I laughed at the things that Horton could do with his ears and I hated the kangaroo.
I wish Jesse McCartney had more lines, although of course, that would've spoiled the plot a bit.
Like any old regular cartoon reality plays a small role in this movie (i.e. Horton going through thousands of clovers and eventually finding the right one) but I guess that's what makes cartoons so much fun.

Review:In the Name of the King

What can I say?
Horrible movie.
Terrible script.
Mediocre effects.
Dreadful directing.
Poor acting.
Watching this movie is like masochism.
I expected more from this movie.
What a let down.
In the Name of the King is probably the worst movie I've seen this year.

Review:The Mist

At first, I thought that this movie would be bad.
You know, the regular novel-turned-into-movie bad.
I was wrong.
This film doesn't have that much effects but the way the story was handled was cool. It made me wonder what the mist brought along..
It explored human nature at it's worst.
It even had one of the types of people i dislike greatly, the religious fanatics.
And it also made me think of what I'll do if I was in the same situation.
And the ending is forever going to be part of my best endings list.
Classic Stephen King.
A real must see for those who like twisted endings.

Review:Semi-Pro

I was expecting that this movie will be laugh-my-ass-off funny because of Will Ferrel.
I mean, I loved Blades of Glory so Semi-pro should deliver similar laughs, right.
Unfortunately I was just disappointed.
I don't think I've watched a movie with as much curse words as Semi-pro.
It turned me off.
Although I never thought that Will Ferrel had a nice voice.
I liked the song "Love Me Sexy".. Hehe..
It's also nice of them to put a moral lesson in the story.
You know, like "Everyone love everyone" and the part about playing the game and not just playing for the fame.
And I really tried hard to remember where I saw the Monix guy before.
Turns out that he's Woody Harrelson. Saw him in Will and Grace. ^_^

Review:Street Kings

Pfft..Street Kings..
I wanted to watch Step Up 2.
But then again, I did let Beau decide what movie to watch.
The movie was ok although there were parts that confused me a bit.
Forrest Whitaker's acting was very good.
I expected more action from the film but since I'm not really a big fan of action movies like these I really don't mind that much.
Too much cursing though.
Story also makes you wonder if something similar is going on in America's police department.
Hmm.. I don't think it can happen in the Philippines, though.
Not enough creative minds in our police force.
A mediocre movie from Keanu Reeves.
Bleh.

Review:Forbidden Kingdom

Jackie Chan and Jet Li.
Together.
In one movie.
Need I say more?
But seriously the movie was very good, but not great.
I think that the movie was a bit short and there really wasn't anything new or amazing to me.
Just your regular Kung-fu movie.
The only difference is that it starred 2 of the greatest Kung-fu actors of this generation.
The story was simple, quite plain actually but the fight scenes made up for the simplicity of the plot.

Review:Doomsday

Seriously.
Are you confused about the setting of the movie?
Were all the holes in he stupid plot intentional?
Why would you send only a handful of people in that kind of mission?
And why the hell did the glass in the tank shatter so quickly?
And what's with all the fire and guts?
Thank God for movie passes.
At least I didn't pay for this crap.
